Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and achievement of team sports athletes in the Eleventh student Olympiad across the country. The research that was of correlation type was conducted in through field-based method. The research sample included 1088 athletes in twelve sport fields of whom 200 athletes were randomly chosen. In order to collect the research data, valid and reliable questionnaires, Besharat,s achievement  in sports questionnaire & Shering,s emotional Intelligence questionnaire  and a questionnaire of personal information were used. Data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation. The results suggest that there is a positive correlation between emotional intelligence and sports achievement. Also there are positive correlation among components of self-awareness, social self-awareness, self-management, social skills and motivation with sports achievement. Also results show that from among the components of emotional intelligence, awareness component ranks the first. In general, it is concluded that the teaching of emotional intelligence in individuals, especially athletes is important that because it creates a bridge between athletes and their success and personality and can predict the success of sports athletes.
