Abstract

The aim of the present study was to investigate the mediating role of hope in the relationship between psychological vulnerability and resilience with mental well-being of athletes. Descriptive-correlational research method is based on structure. The statistical population of the research included all the athletes of the national and provincial levels of East Azerbaijan in 2023. The psychological vulnerability questionnaire of Najarian and Davoudi (2001), mental well-being by Keyes and Magyarmo (2003), resilience collection by Connor and Davidson (2003) and Hope Schneider (2002) were used to collect data. Descriptive statistics (mean, deviation) and inferential statistics (Pearson correlation and structural models) were used for data analysis using SPSS and AMOS software package version 24. Results The results of resilience have an impact on the mental well-being of athletes and psychological vulnerability has a negative and significant effect on the mental well-being of athletes. Also, the results showed that hope has a mediating role in the relationship between psychological vulnerability and resilience on the mental well-being of athletes. As a result, it is necessary to pay attention to social factors and factors such as social well-being, psychological hope, in order to improve the resilience of athletes. Also, the structural model of these findings contributes to the nature of the relationship between psychological factors and athletes' well-being.
