Abstract

Objectives: Considering the role of feelings and emotions on success in sports competitions, the current research aimed to psychometrically evaluate the Persian version of Brief In-Competition Emotion questionnaire.
Materials and methods: The statistical population included more than 2700 student-athletes participating in the 15th Sports Cultural Olympiad of the country's students hosted by Tabriz University, of which 342 athletes randomly completed the Brief In-Competition Emotion questionnaire (BICE). This questionnaire contains 10 questions that are measured on a 5-point Likert scale from. To check the factorial structure, the questions were subjected to exploratory analysis by rotating the principal components. To determine the validity of the shortened scale of emotion during competition, the confirmatory factor analysis method was used with the help of version 24 of the Amos software.
Results: The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the questionnaire was estimated at 0.89 and the content validity index of each questionnaire item was higher than 0.78. It was also found that five factors explain 89.17% of the total variance. Also, the results of confirmatory factor analysis of the research showed that all indicators such as RMSEA, GFI and AGFI are at an acceptable level.
Conclusions: According to the findings, the Persian version of Brief In-Competition Emotion questionnaire with ten questions has appropriate validity and reliability and can provide researchers new opportunities for research. It can also be used to study and evaluate the emotions of Iranian athletes during competition.
