Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this research was to determine the validity and reliability of the organic self-talk questionnaire in sports based on the classification of organic self-talk into automatic goal-directed (controlled) self-talk.
Methods & Materials: The organic self-talk questionnaire was translated from English to Farsi, and its face validity and content were determined using the opinions of 10 experts in the field of self-talk. In the data collection stage, 450 athletes from team and individual disciplines were voluntarily selected and completed the organic self-report questionnaire after training or competition.
Results: The results of confirmatory factor analysis in SMART-PLS software showed that Cronbach's alpha coefficient and composite reliability for organic self-talk components were greater than the criterion of 0.70 and less than the criterion of 0.95. The questionnaire has acceptable internal consistency or reliability. The average variance extracted (AVE) criterion, as an indicator of the internal validity of the measurement model, was also greater than the acceptable criterion of 0.50, therefore, convergent validity is established. The goodness of fit indices of RMSEA, Chi-square, NFI, CFI, GFI, and SRMR were acceptable. The organic self-talk questionnaire has construct validity among Iranian athletes.

Conclusions: The organic self-talk questionnaire is a scale based on the multi-dimensional theory and the mode of organic self-talk in athletes, and it measures two types of automatic and goal-directed organic self-talk through the evaluation of four components of automatic organic self-talk and seven components of goal-directed self-talk, and the results are valid and supported the reliability of its Persian version.
