Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effect of academic help-seeking avoidance on psychological distress of physical education students with the mediating role of mind wandering. The descriptive-correlational research method was based on the structural equation model. The statistical population of the study was students of the Physical Education Department of the University of Sistan and Baluchestan in the academic year 1403-1404. A total of 212 people were selected as samples using stratified sampling (by gender). The data collection tools were the help-seeking avoidance questionnaires (Ryan and Pintrich, 1997), psychological distress (Kessler et al., 2002), and mind wandering questionnaires (Mrazek et al., 2013). The structural equation model was used to analyze the data with the help of SmartPLS version 4 software. The findings showed that avoiding academic help-seeking has a positive and significant effect on both psychological distress and mental wandering of students, mental wandering has a positive and significant effect on psychological distress of students, avoiding academic help-seeking has a positive and significant effect on psychological distress of students through the mediation of mental wandering. Therefore, it can be concluded that students who avoid seeking help in completing academic assignments experience more mental wandering, and this mental wandering also increases their psychological distress.
