Social anxiety is affected by Genetic factors and personality traits, and many cognitive-behavioral components. Early maladaptive schemas are one of the cognitive factors that make social anxiety disorder persistent. Therefore, the present study examines the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and athletes' social anxiety with the mediating role of physical self-concept. After referring to different sports clubs, 280 athletes voluntarily participated in the present study and completed the Young Schema (YSQ), social anxiety, and physical self-concept questionnaires. The path analysis in Smart PLS software at a significant level of 0.05 showed that there is a positive and meaningful relationship between social anxiety and maladaptive schemas of the Disconnection and Rejection Domain, impaired autonomy and performance, impaired limits, other-directedness and hypervigilance, and inhibition. Also, there is a negative and meaningful relationship between physical self-concept and maladaptive schemas of the Disconnection and Rejection Domain, impaired autonomy and performance, hypervigilance, and inhibition. Besides, there is no significant relationship between maladaptive schemas of impaired limits and other-directedness and physical self-concept. Finally, there is a negative and significant relationship between physical self-concept and social anxiety. Although early maladaptive schemas increase social anxiety and decrease self-concept, self-concept does not mediate the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and social anxiety.
