[English]

Fear of falling has been described as an ongoing concern that may limit daily activities. It can also reduce self-confidence, especially in the balance functions of older people, and finally lead to muscle weakness and immobility of these people. For this purpose, 30 elderly women were selected as subjects based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, and their fear of falling were evaluated by using Falls Efficacy Scale International (FES-I). The intervention group participated in a Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) program for 8 weeks, while the control group did not receive any intervention. Fear of falling of both groups were re-evaluated after the intervention. Finally, the Mixed ANOVA test was used for data analysis (P≤0.05). Data analysis showed that there is a significant interaction between time (pre-test, post-test) and group (control and experimental) in relation to fear of falling scores (P<0.05). It was also found that the main effect of time and the main effect of group are significant in relation to the research variables. Generally, it seems that PMR training can significantly improve the fear of falling scores of the elderly (P<0.05).
